Introduction:

At the recent CoCID meeting in Barcelona, UCD Dublin School of Veterinary Science presented its latest work on understanding the cross-species transmission mechanisms of the hepatitis E virus.

Update:

The current focus of the group of Prof. Nicola Fletcher in CoCID is to investigate structural differences in genotype 1 and 3 HEV replication in pig and human cell lines and to evaluate the morphological features of single cells. To do this they are using various imaging techniques such as CLEM and SXT. In particular, they are interested in the virus-induced changes to the mitochondria. They have begun using SXT to image the mitochondria’ size, shape and distribution in whole cryo-prepared Huh7.5 cells.
