Soft X-ray tomography images of control and HCV-infected Huh7 cells were performed on the SXT-100 microscope for project CoCID.

The cells are first vitrified by plunge freezing, then transferred to the microscope with soft X-ray projections acquired over an angular range of ± 53° in 1° steps. This sequence of images show virtual slices from the 3D volume, revealing many structural alterations in the infected cell cytosol compared with control cells. Samples were prepared by Dr Pablo Gastaminza of CSIC Madrid.
